INDIANAPOLIS — The Food and Drug Administration has approved the antidepressant Cymbalta as a treatment for pain caused by diabetic peripheral neuropathy, a condition that affects an estimated 5 million Americans. After a priority six-month review the regulatory agency granted Eli Lilly and Co. approval for the product as the first medicine to treat that condition.
According to the company, Cymbalta is the the first FDA-approved treatment for a painful affliction of millions of diabetes patients.
